FROM THE PIT TO THE CROWD: SET IT OFF WITH SCENE QUEEN, IN HER OWN WORDS, AND RIVALS – THE BEACHAM – ORLANDO FL – MAY 11, 2023

Another insanely hot and humid day in Downtown Orlando. Huge line of concert goers of all ages waited outside for the doors of The Beacham to open at 5:30. I was familiar with some of the music that was going to be played tonight, however, I didn’t anticipate that the main age group was teens. Not that I don’t like kids but the violent flashbacks of my “old days” were hitting me hard (Hitting the famous “I turned 30” crisis!). The good ol’ scene kids days. I saw a girl showing off the same style I once wore years ago.  While I was feeling incredibly nostalgic about my teen years, the crowd at the Beacham was quickly filling up the place up to an insane capacity.

Dark pop-punk band from  Los Angeles, CA; Rivals took the stage at 6:30. I’m guilty for discovering them through TikTok, but it’s amazing that now bands have another platform to get their music out there. I absolutely love them. The raw female energy that vocalist Kalie Wolf brings to the stage is contagious. Opening with the song “Fake Rich”, and not to be biased by my already existing love for this band, the power they brought to the stage was mind-blowing. Followed by songs such as “Bleeding Star” and “Alkaline”. They ended their set with the song “Dark Matter” which, again, I am guilty of discovering through TikTok.  Rivals is one of those bands that make you excited for their future in the industry, I can’t wait for them to be the ones headlining tours.

After a very brief wait  In Her Own Words follow right after. Pop-punk band from Los Angeles, that’s been on the scene since 2010, continued to build on the momentum. With their unique blend of pop punk and alternative rock, they unleashed a set filled with high-energy tracks and heartfelt lyrics. The band’s stage presence captivated the audience, evoking a strong connection between the performers and their fans.

Wasting no time; Scene Queen quickly took the stage at The Beacham. Known for her hit song “Pink Rover”, which gained popularity on TikTok, kicked off the evening with a burst of energy. The crowd was instantly drawn to her provocative and unapologetic lyrics. While some might find the content raunchy (which was the reason the show had to be moved from House Of Blues to The Beacham) it was evident that the young audience embraced the provocative nature of her music, contributing to the electric atmosphere. Cody Carson, from Set It Off,  joined her on stage to sing their song “Barbie & Ken”.  Fans sang along to every word, celebrating the bold and unfiltered lyrics.

With a little break between performances, Set It Off took the stage at 9pm.  The band wasted no time in launching into their hit songs, delivering each one with even more energy. Starting with songs such as the powerful “Killer in the Mirror,” Set It Off’s performance showcased their ability to seamlessly transition between high-energy rock tracks and poignant ballads. The crowd sang along with every word, creating a harmonious unity between the band and their devoted fans. The stage production complemented the band’s performance flawlessly. A mesmerizing display of old tvs lined up displaying the band logo and other images relating to each song.  Set It Off closed the night with a great encore, leaving the crowd in awe and clamoring for more. The band’s genuine appreciation for their fans was evident as they took their final bows, showering the audience with gratitude and promising to return to Orlando soon.
