Every now and then I catch something shared via Facebook and that just makes you stop and go “Woah!” This time it was a video of Robyn Adele Anderson covering Limp Bizkit’s “Rollin'”. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect when I saw this, but I had to click that play button to see what this was all about. And it is amazing! She perfectly takes this well-known song, turns it on its heel, and moves it into a completely different genre. And if you feel like yelling out “Rawhide!” while watching the video, you’re not alone, and Robyn and her crew sneaks in that medley into this cover. You can see the video for yourself below.
This isn’t the first time Robyn has done this either. She’s performed a few jazz covers of System of a Down’s “Chop Suey”, “Lose Yourself”, and “Without Me” both by Eminem, and even “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana in a 1940s swing style. My personal favorite is her cover of “Clint Eastwood” by Gorillaz as a swing song with sneaking in the James Bond theme song via piano. They are definitely worth watching.
So who is Robyn? From her website, Robyn “is a New York-based singer, actress, and pin-up model. Her career swiftly shifted gears from working in the nonprofit sector to the arts when she crossed paths with the genre-bending music collective Postmodern Jukebox.” She performs as both a solo artist and with Postmodern Jukebox. She’s made appearances on “Good Morning America” and “VH1 Modern Buzz”. When she’s not on tour she’s actively performing in New York City’s theater scene.
