PIT THOUGHTS: WHEN WE WERE YOUNG FESTIVAL – YOU HAVE OUR ATTENTION!

Let’s be honest for a minute. When the announcement dropped from Live Nation for the When We Were Young Festival, music fans turned their heads. It’s all that’s been talked about all week long. Whether you’re loving the lineup or you’re posting memes about it, this festival has captured everyone’s attention. Hell, it definitely grabbed my attention. Let’s dive in a little bit on this festival and you’ll see why.

The headliners alone had music fans gasping. My Chemical Romance and Paramore. Live Nation isn’t playing around with these two as headliners. My Chemical Romance‘s reunion tour was originally supposed to take place in 2020, but they pushed off due to COVID-19 concerns. Now, they’ll be back on the road in 2022 with this festival being included on their run. Paramore hasn’t performed since 2018, so this will be a fantastic opportunity for fans old and new to see their performance. As if that wasn’t enough, the When We Were Young festival also presents Bring Me The Horizon who always provides a high energy (and hopefully more pyrotechnics) performance, A Day To Remember who never fails to entertain with their solid rock and fan interactions, and Avril Lavigne bring her pop-punk will surely wow the crowds. Plus, she’s also releasing her 6th studio album Love Sux in February 2022, so fans are sure to hear her new music at this festival.

Nostalgia is the name of the game with this lineup, bringing fans a large selection of rock bands from the 90s and early 2000s including AFI, Jimmy Eat World, The All American Rejects, The Wonder Years, SilversteinThe Used, Alkaline Trio, Manchester Orchestra, Taking Back Sunday, and more. The festival name certainly leans towards that nostalgia of music from those years. But, there’s also a great selection of hardcore metal and punk bands at this festival including I Prevail, Atreyu, Ice Nine Kills, Sense Fail, Knocked Loose, Neck Deep, and Motionless In White. Plus I love the addition of rock bands Pierce The Veil, Dance Gavin Dance, Wolf Alice, Palaye Royale, State Champs, Hawthorne Heights, and The Story So Far.

Currently residing in Florida, I couldn’t help but notice the bands that are from my state. Besides A Day To Remember (from Ocala) also listed on the festival are The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (from Middleburg), Anberlin (from Winter Haven), Dashboard Confessional (from Boca Raton), and Sleeping With Sirens (originally from Orlando but currently resides in Grand Rapids, MI). I wish Matchbox 20 (from Orlando) was added to this list because they perfectly fit this festival vibe.

OK, now that you see why this lineup has been so hyped, let’s talk about location and time. Las Vegas. Yep. LAS VEGAS. There has been a number of festivals held out there with fantastic success because the locations are so easily accessible in this city. When We Were Young Festival will be held at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds. Now, the only catch is this location has no parking for vehicles. If you’re driving in, leave your car at your hotel. Your means to get there is either walking, rideshare (Uber or Lyft), bus, or the Las Vegas Monorail. The festival website says the grounds are within walking distance of no longer than 30 minutes depending on your hotel starting location. Circus Circus and Sahara appear to be the closest hotels as they are literally right outside of the festival grounds from the map on the festival website.

The festival takes place on Saturday, October 22, 2022. That’s it. ONE day. So if you’re wondering how the heck does a festival lineup all of these bands to perform in just one day, it’s doable and has been done many times before via Warped Tour. The festival will have multiple stages and bands will run overlap on those stages throughout the day. This does mean you won’t get to see every band on this list and you’ll have to chose who is more important and plan out your day once the set times get released. The headliners will mostly likely not overlap each other.

So the one thing most of you are wondering now is, “What’s the cost?” Well, there are three levels of tickets listed at General Admission, General Admission +, and VIP. This is how each breaks down:
