If you live in the Central Florida area, you probably heard of Earthday Birthday. And if you haven’t, I’d be surprised. Earthday Birthday is a one-day festival that is created and hosted by Orlando’s rock station 101.1 WJRR. It is primarily held in April close to the time of the celebrated Earth Day. The event has been around for 27 years and now it’s ready to celebrate its 28th birthday. WJRR presents Earthday Birthday 28 to be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Central Florida Fairgrounds and fans will be in for a treat.
This year’s headliner is no stranger to Earthday Birthday as they’ve headlined and performed here numerous times. The hard rockers from Boston, Godsmack, is going to have the crowd rocking that night. Godsmack has always delivered a phenomenal live performance with their hard rock sounds and has blared across the WJRR airwaves with singles such as “Straight Down The Line”, “Voodoo”, “Awake”, and “I Stand Alone”. Their latest album, When Legends Rise, from 2018 hit #1 on the Billboard US Top Rock Albums, US Top Hard Rock Albums, US Top Alternative Albums, and the US Independent Albums and was recently certified Gold in September 2021. And no surprise with great singles “Bulletproof”, “Under Your Scars”, “Unforgettable”, and the title track “When Legends Rise”. They are an excellent headliner.
Also on the lineup is another band that has played Earthday Birthday multiple times and has never disappointed the fans, the Canadian rockers, Three Days Grace. Known for their hard rock and fan interaction during performances, they too have blared across the WJRR airwaves with singles such as “I Hate Everything About You”, “Riot”, “Animal I Have Become”, and “Pain”. Their most recent album, Outsider, released in 2018, made it to #3 on Billboard‘s US Top Hard Rock Albums and US Top Alternative Albums. The album had the singles “The Mountain”, “Right Left Wrong”, and “Infra-Red” and all of them were spectacular. Three Days Grace will be releasing their next album Explosions on May 4, 2022 and if we’re lucky, they’ll play a few songs from the new album at Earthday Birthday 28.
Alongside Three Days Grace will be rock band from Hollywood, CA, Black Veil Brides. They are well known for their hard rock and high energy live performances and definitely leave the fans wanting more and more. Their recent album The Phantom Tomorrow was released on October 29, 2021 with the singles “Scarlett Cross”, “Fields of Bone”, and “Crimson Skies”. They are currently on the Trinity of Terror Tour with Motionless In White and Ice Nine Kills, who are also part of the Earthday Birthday 28 lineup.
Rounding out the lineup is Florida’s own Wage War from Ocala, who delivers fantastic performances and is one not to be missed. Thrice, another Earthday Birthday alumni, will return to the stage. And I really love the additions of rockers Black Stone Cherry, guitarist Ayron Jones, who has such amazing talent, and Lilith Czar who is sure to be a hit with the attendees. And then we have the surprise add-on of Jelly Roll who is an amazing performer.
The Central Florida Fairgrounds is a great location for the event and has been held there for many years. There’s plenty of space for the stages, food and drink vendors, and (if they’re open) physical bathroom buildings. And while April’s weather can be sometimes hit or miss, it’s usually a good time for a rock show.
