I’ve been a fan of Green Ronin Publishing products ever since the inception of Mutants and Masterminds. When the Gen Con 2019 Event Schedule was released and I saw there was a seminar titled “What’s New With Green Ronin”, there was no way I was missing it.
The panel was held with Joseph Carriker, developer for the Blue Rose RPG, Crystal Frasier, developer for the Mutants and Masterminds RPG, Malcolm Sheppard, developer for Modern Age RPG and Ork!, and Chris Pramas, founder and President of Green Ronin Publishing.
The one thing I truly loved about this seminar is the light-hearted atmosphere. I’ve been to seminars in the past that were all business and straight-laced faces all the time. Though they were all here to talk about their new products and do some Q&A, right away you can see they were all very personable. They joked around and made it a fun and engaging seminar. They also took time to talk to people individually after the event.
All the attendees were excited to hear what Green Ronin was bringing to their fans this year! Here are some of the highlights:
- 3 of the 5 products they were revealing were Mutants and Masterminds books
- Super Team Handbook – the book focuses on running your game based on your favorite comic books with pre-generated teams and with details on how to create your characters focusing on the team-based aspect
- Deluxe Gamemaster’s Guide – the revised version of the previous Gamemaster’s Guide for Mutants and Masterminds in hardback with new archetypes and minions
- Height of the Storm – the first published novel for Mutants and Masterminds by Aaron Rosenberg that takes place in Emerald City
- Threefold – the first Modern Age RPG flagship setting where there are multiple stable gates connect to other universes and alternate Earths
- Threefold was built for GMs to use parts or all of the pieces of the settings (fully loaded nachos per Chris Pramas!)
- Threefold can also be used with other books from other Green Ronin lines. For example, Enemies and Allies – a book of NPCs for Fantasy Age RPG that could be used for Threefold because of all the alternating universes.
- Fantasy Age Campaign Builder’s Guide – a GM guide on how to set up campaigns, monster creation, information on designing religions, and much more
After the new products, the groups went into what products are in the pipeline:
- Envoys to the Mountain – a Blue Rose RPG campaign setting
- The book will include Hooks that players will be able to select to show how they’re connected to the campaign
- Touching the Wild – a Blue Rose RPG book that will be a bestiary of Shadowspawn and players guide for Rhydan (psychics)
- Six of Cups – another adventure anthology for the Blue Rose RPG
- Abzu’s Bounty – the first campaign for The Expanse RPG to be released around December 2019
- Ships of the Expanse – ships and deck plans for The Expanse RPG
- Astonishing Adventures – a line of PDF adventures for Mutants and Masterminds
- The Reign of Cats and Dogs will be the first Astonishing Adventures PDF
- Time Travelers Codex – a book on how to use time travel in your Mutants and Masterminds campaigns
- Modern Age Companion – though the book was released at Origins they talked about it during the pipeline section on how to enhance your Modern Age games
- Warflower – a PDF adventure for Modern Age RPG
- Five and Infinity – an adventure book for Threefold and how to create adventures using the Infinity Engine
- Modern Age Mastery Guide – both a player and GM guide for the Modern Age RPG
- There is support for the Modern Age RPG book The World of Lazarus directly in the current issues of the comic book series Lazarus
- Next year is Green Ronin’s 20th anniversary and they are bringing back The Book of Fiends for 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons
- The Vigilantes Handbook – a sourcebook for Mutants and Masterminds (more brooding on rooftops per Crystal!)
- The Ork Master Mayhem Kit – adventures and more source material for Ork!
- Swords of the Shadow Planet – updated take of planetary fairy romance
- Huge announcement that Green Ronin acquired the license to the do an RPG N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth Trilogy titled The Fifth Season RPG for Fall 2020
As part of the Q&A (within the last 10 minutes of the seminar) some noteable highlights included:
- There’s no current plan to do more Dragon Age RPG books even though they would like to do more
- There is the possibility for more licensed superhero books (like they did with DC Universe)
- Freeport: The City of Adventure will have something special done for their 20th anniversary next year
