Gen Con 2019: Stargate RPG Q&A with Brad Ellis and Wes Walker of Wyvern Gaming

9 AM is pretty early for me to hit any event at Gen Con. Especially an event that was being held over at Lucas Oil Stadium. Yet, my son and I were up and making the trek to catch a seminar about the new Stargate RPG. Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG) was the first publisher to produce the Stargate RPG and they did a pretty solid job with it. It became one of my favorite games to run. So, of course, I was curious to hear who was producing this new book.

Enter Wyvern Gaming group out of TN. The company acquired a license through MGM Studios to produce a new Stargate RPG. Brad Ellis and Wes Walker from Wyvern Gaming were hosting the seminar to talk about the new game and a little of the history on their working with MGM. Here are some of the tidbits we learned from the Q&A session:

  • The game will be using the 5th edition Open License rules
  • Technology will play a large part of the game as expected
  • Alien races will be available to play including Jaffa
  • Characters will be based out of a Phoenix Site, a replacement for the Alpha Site in Stargate SG-1
  • There will be the ability to level up your Phoenix Site to provide characters with better gear
  • The Core Rulebook will cover history from Stargate SG-1 Seasons 1-6
  • There is the intent to have a living campaign for the Stargate RPG
  • Target release date is Gen Con 2020
