After two fantastic streaming concerts, Danny Wimmer Presents continued on with the third concert in January, Avatar Ages – An Impossible Concert Experience‘s Age of Madness. This time out Avatar would be performing songs from their 2012 album Black Waltz and their 2014 album Hail the Apocalypse. Johannes Eckerström (vocals), John Alfredsson (drums), Henrik Sandelin (bass), Jonas Jarlsby (guitar), and Tim Öhrström (guitar) were at the ready to bring another fun show to their fans.
The show started like a horror flick with creepy words flashing across the screen and Johannes stalking outside of a house. He kicks in the door and steps onto the stage with the doors looking for something. He makes his way through the other stages until he finds the band on the stage with Avatar written in lights in the background. The rest of the band is frozen in place and Johannes gets them going into “Hail the Apocalypse”, the title track to the 2014 album. The music was hard and heavy and a great way to kick off the show. They followed up with “Torn Apart” from their 2012 album Black Waltz. They kept on the heavy and Johannes drank a liquid out of a gas can and spat it on the floor with a crazed look in his eyes. I loved how heavy Henrik‘s bass played through this part.
The act takes a creepier turn with circus-like music and Johannes walking through the studio with a big smile on his face and balloons in his hand. He makes his way to the door stage to perform the title track “Black Waltz”. They followed that up with one of my favorites they played during the first show, “Let It Burn”, on the stage with the movie screens. I truly love the use of the screens, the performance, and the energy that exudes from Avatar during this performance. Following up with “Paint Me Red” from Black Waltz, Avatar dropped the heavy even better than before, enough I was ready to start moshing in my own home. For some reason, Johannes starts chasing John around the studios like a Scooby-Doo episode. They even did the Scooby-Doo door scene on the door stage. From there they played “Puppet Show”. The song has the same sound of the song “Phantom of the Opera” and was very cool to hear.
As we moved into the last part of the show, we had a fantastic guitar show between Jonas and Tim. Once again, we got to see Johannes at the piano again, this time performing “Tower” from Hail the Apocalypse. He is so truly talented behind the keys. And once again, head banging, mosh driving music with “Get In Line”. But, the finale was spectacular closing the show with “Smells Like a Freakshow“.
Once again, Avatar delivered a solid and entertaining livestream for the fans. The full setlist is listed below:
