It was an international affair this past week when Aussies The Amity Affliction and Canadian metalcore Silverstein brought their co-headlining tour to a sold-out House of Blues in Orlando, along with Welsh rockers Holding Absence.
Holding Absence were a great way to start the night. While not as heavy as what was to come, they were energized and ready to entertain. Playing their first show near the house of mouse, the boys from Wales were obviously buzzed to be there and their excitement was contagious. Their most recent album The Greatest Mistake of My Life was released in 2021. You can find their music and merch over at https://www.holdingabsence.com/.
Silverstein was up next and the crowd was ready. Admittedly, this wasn’t my first Silverstein rodeo and they never disappoint. The crowd was deafening as singer Shane Told emerged in a jacket bearing the name of their new album Misery Made Me. Launching into “Infinite”, the lyrics were shouted back at him and the crowd surfing began and didn’t stop until the end of their set, which concluded with “The Afterglow”. Before getting into The Amity Affliction, I have to give a brief shout out to the roadies for this tour. They were tight, getting the stage torn down and back up with a quickness. There was only a brief amount of time before The Amity Affliction was ready to go. The crowd roared as the band took the stage and rose to a level that could probably be heard at Epcot as singer Joel Birch emerged and launched into “Coffin”. The singing (well, screaming) began and the surfing was started again and didn’t stop until the final cords of “Soak Me in Bleach”, the final song of the evening, came to a close. Their most recent release was their EP Somewhere Beyond the Blue. You can find their music and merch at http://theamityaffliction.net/.
The guys will be trekking all over North America through the beginning of October so if you can, catch them quick before they’re gone!
