FROM THE PIT TO THE CROWD: POP EVIL WITH THE WORD ALIVE AND AVOID – THE PALLADIUM – WORCESTER MA – MARCH 23, 2023

Pop Evil

Pop Evil’s Skeletons Tour is in full swing as they tour the US with Avoid & The World Alive before heading overseas.

Last Thursday, the crowd was noticeably younger at the Palladium in Worcester as Avoid opened for Pop Evil. I’m not sure if it’s because these teens are way cooler than I was at that age or if it’s because all the parents are rocker Gen Xers and this is how we do old, partying on a Thursday to our favorite bands without a care in the world. Either way, it was refreshing to see all ages showing up and jamming out to some amazing music from Avoid, The Word Alive, and Pop Evil.

Avoid from Seattle has an edgy yet nostalgic early 2000s feel to their music. They were very high energy and had the crowd jumping. Check out their music, merch, and social links at https://avoidkicksass.org/

I love when a band combines throaty growls with ballads in their songs and The Word Alive does just that. They played some of their older heavier songs as well as some of their newer stuff to cater to their fans of all ages. Tyler Smith, the lead singer from The Word Alive, even acknowledged the youngest fan in the crowd and gave her a drumstick at the end of their show. Leigh Kakaty took the stage with his daring vampire energy that we all love and started off the show hard and fast with “Eye of the Storm.” They had us on our feet the entire time giving them the same heartfelt energy they were giving us. Leigh reminded us that during these hard times and despite all our differences we are all the same inside and have the same beautiful SKELETON. They ended their set by taking it way back for their final songs and played one of my favorites “Torn to Pieces.” You can find their music and merch over at https://popevil.com/.
