On Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Welcome To Rockville, I had the honor of interviewing one of the most well-known radio personalities today, Jose Mangin. Currently, the host of both SiriusXM Octane and SiriusXM Liquid Metal, which he puts in about 12 hours of his day into, is a true lover of metal music. From the first time I met him at Chicago Open Air 2017, his passion for metal pours out of him when he talks, when he introduces artists on stage, and even during this interview. Jose discusses his relationship with Zippo and why you’ve seen him at so many of the Danny Wimmer Presents festivals over the past few years. And if you’ve seen him introduce an artist at a festival, you’ll always hear him thanking the media, the security, the festival staff, and so many others. In this interview, he explains why he makes that extra effort to make that shout out.
On Friday, May 3rd, Welcome To Rockville suffered a string of severe weather that caused the festival to temporarily shut down and had the festival grounds evacuated. Jose was with the Danny Wimmer Presents staff during that time and explains in the interview the reason why the evacuation had to occur and the effort the staff goes through during that time. At last, but certainly not least, Jose dropped a teaser about an event he is working on with Danny Wimmer Presents. The is supposed to involve “tacos, tequila, and heavy metal” and he referenced it as a “spiritual event”.
