Grandson made a stop at Wally’s Pub on July 11th for his I Love You, I’m Trying tour. Wally’s was a packed house of fans anticipating to see Grandson and his fans truly adore him and his music.

No Love for the Middle Child was an interesting addition to the lineup on Grandson’s I Love You, I’m Trying tour. Let me start by saying that I genuinely appreciate the band’s fantastic sound and the beautiful voice of their lead singer, Andrew. It was impressive to see his versatility showcased through his Chello playing skills, which he showcased at the end of both his set and Grandson’s. However, their music leaned more towards the mellow and slow side, reminiscent of bands like The Calling. It was unexpected to have them open for Grandson, whose style is typically more energetic.

Speaking of Grandson, he proved himself to be a talented storyteller who brought a dynamic energy to the stage. His music is a unique fusion of rap and rock, with a touch of reggae. Perhaps it’s his enthusiastic “Yeee” shouts that reminded me of that reggae vibe, but whatever the case may be, I thoroughly enjoyed his music. Grandson commenced his set with his rap-heavy songs and gradually transitioned into more rock-infused tracks as the night progressed.

One thing that stood out was Grandson’s genuine affection for his fans, known as The Grandkids, whom he considers family. This was evident when he took a moment to slow things down and join the crowd because he ‘wanted to sing with them and not at them’. The audience formed a circle around him, illuminating the space with the flashlights on their cell phones. In a heartwarming gesture, he even invited a fan onto the stage who reached out to him prior to the show. The fan surprised his girlfriend by taking the stage and proposing.

To conclude the night, Grandson delivered a powerful rendition of his lead single, “Blood//Water,” from his album A Modern Tragedy Vol. 1. As he exited the stage, the crowd erupted into chants of “Grandson! Grandson!” The show was an incredible and intense experience, showcasing the immense talent and passion of this remarkable artist.
